The references to the elements are found in Buddha's discourses and other sutras. Earth, wind, water and fire belong to the phenomenal world but also describe the energies around us. “Being rock solid,” “throwing a wet blanket on things,” “blowing hot air,” and “burning passion,” are everyday expressions that describe these energies. We will introduce the characteristics of the elements, their relationship to one another and their transformation into wisdoms as a way to work with our practice of letting go of the self. Join us for this midday study group as we learn together the mystery of being. If possible, please come early and join some part of the 12:00–1:00 pm meditation prior to class. (You may enter the zendo anytime during noon meditation, even for the last 5 minutes.) |
